Let me be very clear... I have NO problem with soft - unsharp images done on purpose!! I have many and will make many more. That said I was simply voicing my opinion about some of your incredible work. For me you have a good enough eye for excellent subject matter that I feel you should take your work to the next level and use a tripod when you can! I love your artistic vision and champioin your desire to not have everything sharp! I'll post a new piece which should help you understand where I'm at with soft images... :)

I do love your body of work here on usefilm. I love your sense of color and design. I'm a big fan of abstract images and you have many that are excellent. I'm not sure if it is the look you desire (which is just fine if it is!) or not but I would prefer to see some of your abstracts a bit sharper. Keep in mind I say this with all due respect to the creative choice to make them soft on purpose as I do on many occasions... I'm just saying on some for my eye I would like to see them sharper.

I too like this image for it color and composition very much but do feel it is a bit soft... are you using a tripod to insure sharp images?

KILLER! Texture, RED!, Simple, just excellent! Here is another take using a little plug in called Velvia Vision from Fred Miranda's site.. It should make the red really pop!

Okay, I could not resist... this is a lovely image Betsy... I do hope you have spent more time with this scene as there are many other wonderful images there... like this one... my attempt was to simplify your image... and then to put the pink in a stronger area.. not some towards the middle... Just my opinion... not right or yours wrong just another take.

I like ice pattern a lot! This is very well seen and a nice image. It does feel a bit soft to me and I think I would like to have seen the lines more oblique... They feel a bit static being so close to vertical.

No Chris this is likely the most photographed lighthouse in the world which is in Maine. It is the Portland Headlight in Cape Elizabeth. Thank you so much for your kind feedback.

A very nice scene and again well seen. Not much to critique on this one. A small nit would be that in the top and bottom you have cropped out windows. I think it would be stronger if you have moved in a bit closer and had three windows and eliminated the top and bottome partials. Try cropping that way and you will see what I mean.

While I do enjoy the graphic nature of this image I can't help but feel it is a bit overexposed or maybe just that the light is a bit harsh. Specifically in the top left it feels a bit "blown out" and thus distracting. A big soft diffuser on this would have worked wonders! Now all that said, the composition on this is EXCELLENT! It flows like a waterfall. Well seen!

Well Betsy I think this is a very interesting shot! You have done a nice job of NOT having the horizon in the middle and you have placed the sun and tree in strong positions. You have also created an nice feeling or mood here. I say good job! Now did you try other images on this wonderful morning? Go down and kick that boat out in the water and shoot the boat with the line from the tree next time.. or go on that dock and shoot from it... or put it in the image... lots to do here!

Dang, I think you are obsessed with that darn ferris wheel! Well I think you have done such a wonderful job with it you should start a project of ferris wheels across the country and do a book! I'm not kidding! I love this image. The composition is excellent. I love the five (arguably six) bands of color that draw you into the image and keep you wandering around it. Nicely done. Good stuff Lily!

I like the idea and it certianly does fit as an abstract. I'm not sure I like all the empty black space in this one. I'm not against the idea of empty space necessarily but in this one if feels unbalanced.
