I'd like it better if your figures were more in focus. So I applied "Focus Magic" to it. Snapped it up quite a bit, I think. Take a look:

I think this is a VERY good shot. It's artistic in the sense that it has a nice playoff between lines and shapes and colors, and there's something of interest in virtually every part of it. Well done! Even the tree in the background looks like it's a framed inset. Enviable, and thanks for posting it.

I found the "greenish" caste a little disquieting, so I converted it to greyscale, and heightened the contrast a little. What do you think? Hope you don't mind?

I just thought the Heron's head, neck, & eye could be a bit more 3D-like, like so?

Wow! How elegantly simple, yet simply elegant! Nicely done and titled. Good job!

Beautiful composition! It seems like the colors could be just a little snappier, but that would be my only complaint.

I like the interplay of the straight diagonal lines behind the plant. It bothers me slightly that the diagonals are a bit on the soft side, and I think the image overall could use a little more color contrast. But it's a nice image, showing a good eye on your part!

Very dramatic scene, well done from that department. Somehow I'd think the composition would be improved if the photo were taken in a "portrait" mode, moving the dimly-lit face closer to center so that it would all fit. Like so? Hope you don't mind!

I have difficulty with this image. Maybe it's only me, but I see a big prominent bar up the middle, a large number of horizontal lines (linee?) across the bar, all obscuring what must be a beautiful lake scene behind. If there is a theme, I missed it. I'm sorry!

Nice framing, lighting and dramatic effect. Well done! The kind of photo that would look nice on a wall someplace.

I first thought the image was a little soft, but I think the foreground objects are in focus, and the background objects are slightly out of focus. To me, the city in the background is the most interesting part of the photo, but my attention is not drawn to it enough. And another slight criticism is that the photo looks "out of level," like the horizon is slightly tilted. Thanks for posting!

Vikram: Ever since they've "upgraded" the UseFilm site, I've found it much less appealing. For one thing, I don't even get notices anymore when someone like you leaves a comment. And when I post a new photo, hardly anyone says anything about it. So either my work is going bad, or something sour has happened to the site. You tell me?

Aha! You thought I had forgotten you? Your photo has 3 layers of differing levels of abstraction: The foreground, very objective photograph; the middle background, detailed but hazy, and the far background, like a painting. Very artful, Jorge. Nice work!

I love it, Vikram! That tree on the right looks like it's actually afraid of the coming storm. Well done! I'm glad SOMEONE is still using UseFilm! I'm not liking it so much anymore. How are you doing?

Rhonda, this "new" UseFilm is leaving me behind. It's much less personal than the old one was, and it's sheer blind luck if anyone sees and comments on your photos, it seems to me. I used to see "New Friends Uploads," don't see that anymore. The enemy of the GOOD, is the BETTER! I definitely liked the old one better. Now, I rarely visit.

Actually Debra, I used full zoom (420mm) PLUS the TCON-17, which multiplies the 420 X 1.7 for a total of around 700mm equivalent. Even at that, he wasn't exactly filling the frame, but I liked his pose anyway. Thanks for your comments. The shot was taken at the Baylands marshlands at the foot of SF Bay, not really in the town of Palo Alto, but close!

Ray, if you feel like moving to the "v2," it's a free upgrade. Contact me for details if you're interested.

Thanks for your comments, Ray! I looked through your portfolio. You have a good eye, which makes your praise more valuable. I didn't see what kind of camera you have? I suspect, though.

Very nice, very soft rendition of a soft little girl. Quite beautiful in most respects, but maybe just a little TOO soft here and there?

Jorge, very nice portrait of Rosa! She looks expectant, like she is waiting for you to finish the photograph so that you two can go on to much more important matters! But there is a subtle sense of humor that you captured also. Great shot, my friend!

Jorge, thanks for your kind comments. I am not satisfied with this new "Usefilm" format; comments don't always get sent to me via e-mail, and it seems less easy to simply see people's reaction to a picture, or even to find my old friends and their pictures. In frustration, I am pursuing other ways of displaying my photos. How are you doing? I haven't even looked around recently at other Usefilm entries.

Thanks, Vikram, for your comment on my Egrets. It was a spectacular moment, actually. Breeding Egrets get very beautiful. How are you doing? I'm not really liking this new UseFilm format as well as the old, I'm afraid. It's slicker, but seems less accessible for some reason. Am I getting stubborn in my old age?

Thank you for your fine comments in my behalf. I've lost all of the ratings I ever had on all my other photographs, so thanks to you, I now have a total of 1 rating! Keep 'em coming! ;-)

Two criticisms: The subject is too centered in the frame, and I think the focus is just a little soft on the bird, in my opinion. You are Vikram's friend? Tell him HELLO for me!

Great photo, Jorge. I think Diana might be embarrassed to see her face so red in a photograph, but maybe that's how she looks? You'll hate me, but I adjusted her face a little bit, attached.

Interesting addition, Vikram. Thanks for doing that. I tend to just go with the natural light for shots like that, but you managed to bring in a highlight, a bit unnatural since you did nothing for the Jay's face, but still beneficial, I guess.

Very well composed, Jorge! It's one of those shots where I'd like to see billowing white clouds and azure blue sky as a backdrop, but you can't choose the weather!

This is really a very beautiful, touching photo, Vikram. Nice work. Tell me: Is it leaning just a little bit to the right? And what are "Obladi! Oblada!"? I think I'm about to kicked off UseFilm for not giving everyone 7 stars, but I can take it. How are things with you, me lad?
