Hello my friend! I haven't been on Usefilm lately (posting to Flickr.com) I hope you are well.
This is a wonderful photo of two modest and lovely young ladies. The combination of the pensive-looking girl in profile and the smiling one, slightly out-of-focus in the background, is splendid.
Is this in Waterloo, Ontario? I also noticed you have some photos form Hamilton (Ontario?) My brother in law lives not 30 minutes north of Hamilton. Will you be there again some time soon? Perhaps we could finally meet?

Hello Dear Kamran!
This is an amazing photo! By choosing the high viewpoint, you've created a dynamic composition. My eye goes immediately to the young man in the foreground, then goes back and forth in a "Z" pattern - young man to older man is one part of the Z. Then the diagonal from older man through standing woman to the seated woman. Finally from seated woman across the other figures on the bench.
And such expressions - the young man is guarded, worried(?) - the older man, passive, pays attention to the woman speaking. The woman speaking is animated, head tilted. The woman seated is serene- fully engaged in her reading or study. The woman seated to her left - one wide eye stares at you, "why are you taking my picture!". The remaining two men... we an only see their body language, not their expressions. So much detail to engage the eye.
I enjoyed this photo of yours very much, as you can see!!!

A super photo Galal! You have made a wonderful composition using the large baskets, the man, and the arc of the falling chickpeas. It's an excellent photo for this project, and you have shown very well the dignity of honest work.
As for chickpeas, they are a favorite of mine. They transcend politics as both Arabs and Israelis agree that hummus and other things from chickpeas are delicious!

This is a great image - I love photographing these things - I ought to learn how to use a kayak - plenty of water around here. I've taken a lot of multi-color kayak photos, but I never took one as successful as yours here.

Just beautiful, Kamran! I love the way the curve of the tone arm(?) intersects the curve of the records itself - it very nicely reinforces the diagonal flow of this fine composition. Beautiful muted colors. Another prize-winner!

I forgot to mention that I also like your title. It's one of my favorite songs (Three Dog Night version,) although, unlike you, I was around when the song was first release ;-)
Are you a Beatles fan too? I noticed you titled another of your photos "Rain"
You will love the Rebel XT when you get it - I've had an original Canon Digital Rebel since late 2003. I love it, and the XT is an even better camera.

I really like the way you composed your image here... the overlapping, repeating pattern of the lilly pads and the flow of the image from upper left to lower right is very satisfying.
Also, I like the aspect you bring out here of the little bit of contrasting color in a larger body of all green. You also repeated this idea of "a little bit of one thing in a lot of something else" by the sharp, sawtooth shape of the lilly flower compared to the smooth, rounded shapes of the lilly pads.
I think you've made a very sophisticated image - great job!

Hi Kamran - this is a wonderful "environmental portrait"! Who needs Annie Liebovitz when you have Kamran Bakhtiari?!
The eveness of exposure, color and sharpness is very professional. But more importantly, you got such nice expressions of these gentlemen among their wares - that's the first thing I noticed. Then, I saw that the safe on the left indicates that this is a small shop, and the stacked goods llok like camping or outdoor supplies - aha - there are the tent-poles in the left corner, completing the story.
It's great, and you managed to successfully use every little bit of the image to convey your story!

I know there are already many comments, but I wanted to add my own admiration for your image.
What makes it work so well for me is the repeating pattern of the marching soldiers, emphasized by the strong diagonal perspective - I can imagine that the column goes on forever.
But then I notice the patterns within patterns - the boots, the rifles, the fingers curled around the rifle stocks, the belts, the pockets on the trousers - each one is a repeating mini-element.
So instead of just giving your photo a quick glance, I find myself staring at it for several minutes - wonderful!

Hi Gene - Shana Tova!
"...Great shot-just one question- Why such a slow shutter speed? ..."
I had my Canon A620 digicam on aperture-priority and set to ISO 50 as ususal. I normally don't like to go over ISO 50 or 100, otherwise the noise gets noticable. So anyway, since the sun was pretty low in the western sky, 1/25 sec was what the camera selected for the f/4.5 lens opening. I had the lens zoomed out somewhat, and there could only have opened it up another 1/2-stop or so.

Yes, the USCG Cutter Taney is now part of the Maritime Museum, just about two blocks from the lightship. There's also the WWII submarine Torsk - did you see that one?
