Splendid... just wonderful. Is it a bit too green?
Love it anyways

This image is full of contradictions and I have not made up my mind as to whether I like it or just loath it. On the technical level it is way way over sharpened. So much so it becomes a caricature of itself and in so doing becomes acceptable in a way. The young lady clearly has had a very hard life and is less than a classic beauty, yet she has her dignity/illusions and is wearing earrings. The cigarette indicates available spending money but her sweater is worn through at the shoulders suggesting a frugal life style. The expression is both sad and angry, suggesting she was not happy with your attention. A strong image that repulses me. While not my cup of tea I accept your desire to create and publish it.

I still find your work amazing Ian. In an attempt to tap the spirit space that I imagine you wander in I have just posted a work that was partially inspired by you and the foggy mists we see in your work. That is hard to do in desert.

best wishes

Gaetan Having lived in NY and fished the islands I think that it can be said that there is no need for Predator UAVs. The mosquitos are more than sufficiently dangerous and some now carry black flies under their wings! The black flies in turn carry no-see-ums or 'punkies'.. Now THATS hellfire! I think I saw this island once when I was up there with my father-in-law fishing. I could enjoy living there if not for the winter and the flies! There is something to be said for living in the desert. cheers and thanks for reminding me how nice our border is! John B

Very nicely done Laurie. I am certain your sister appreciated it. My condolences on your loss. FWIW, the Sierra color was/is fabulous and seen best at 8500 feet last weekend. Bishop has not yet turned. Again my sympathy for your loss.

Your children have wonderful eyes and imaginations. Once you start to see these creatures you can find them everywhere. For example:

Thank you Carol. Many of my pier images are long exposures and I seem to capture many 'ghosts'. I think of them as pier walkers from years past.

Sorry that I haven't been about of late. Will try to fix that. I still love your work Ian. The weave of image and ambiguity and Maori stories is wonderful. I have got to get to your part of the world and see it for myself. Love the tuner welding images as well. thanks for sharing. John B

Don't do this to me Laurie... Giving me straight lines like that and expecting me to remain gentlemanly is a strain! Frankly, I am amazed that the OOMIB have not edited this picture to remove the evidence already.

I am glad you said that you got to meet him Laurie. I am a bit fatigued with the entire show at this point but since you have a personal connection - go for it. I have met a few famous people in my life but I have never felt compelled to any sort of celebrity worship. I guess that's just me. Hope you can remember the better parts of his life. He did have talent. John B hey, him 12 and you 13? That makes me 8 years older than you.

Gary - this is one of my favorite images. I have to give him some slack as he is doing exactly what is asked of him. The event is a regional competition in which 14-18 year old students are participating voluntarily in a program to prepare them for a possible military career. She is getting a loud aggressive inspection and to her credit she held her ground. He is a US marine who was one of dozens there to inspect these kids and challenge them in a way that only military people might appreciate.
She asked - she got.

Those poor defenseless post boxes in your youth!
Oh, the horror, the horror.

Very nice Ann. A comment if I may on technique. You say you use a high shutter speed. Its been my experience that shutter speed can be anything IF all the light comes from the flash. If room light is subdued then all the light comes from the flash which is verrry brief and should stop motion. I once used a lab flash that was good to 1 millionth of second and we just opened the shutter and let the flash stop the motion. I have not tried to get collisions. I do know that the height of the rebounding water surface depends on how deep the water is. Very shallow puddles don't seem to rise up but rather splash out. In any case please feel proud of some wonderful images in your portfolio. - John B

Complicated is a relative thing. I had to have two images of the same scene, different exposure times but similar total brightness. then used photoshop cs3 to align the images. Then all I had to do was erase the part I didn;t want. After that I flattened the image and blurred the edges a bit. Thanks for the kind words. John B

That "UFO" is a lens artifact/ refection of the sun. They seem to happen more when I shoot in IR than in color. I like it because it reminds me of how intense the sun really is in place such as this. Thank you for your kind words.

whoa....
For a minute there I thought I was having a flash-back to the 60's !
Then I realized the warnings on my current meds about mixing with
alcohol....
Then I realized it was another great Laurie image !
Well done girl.

Hi Laurie - it was sort of recent, last week of January. I drove to Las Vegas last week and there were a few wild flowers along I-15 at the lower locations. The web can be your guide as to what is going on now. JB
