The dark side, huh? The biggest problem I see here is bad makeup! I see lots of these types of shots in advertising that is supposed to encapsultae the high energy of youth - often with exuberant colors and very vivid backgrounds, and less distracting pants.

Everytime someone comments on your photos you defend your decision. I understand you made some of these decisions, but what's the point of asking for a critique if you just fend off all the suggestions with "I know but I wanted it this way."

It's hard to speak about the makeup - it looks very generic, like what she would wear everyday, and it needs some work in the application. It is not subtle at all - sometimes a lack of subtelty is useful, but this doesn't work.

She has bags under her eyes, she could use some concealer and foundation to cover those lines up to make the area look smoother. With such a strong look on the lips, something with the eyes might have been useful to balance the look out a bit. The red that's used on the lips is kind of awkward, being so close to the mint green of the shirt. Check out Face Forward, or Making Faces by Kevyn Aucoin.

The makeup needs some work - and her chin looks bad tucked in that way. Chin out a bit more...

the cropping looks odd - her arm doesn't need to be cut off, and the amount of flowers showing is also weird.

MORE CONTRAST! AHH!!!! everything blends with everything else ... more contrast would be awesome.

The composition needs a little work - too many things are chopped off here without enough context. But the biggest problem I see with this photo is the setting - I don't think a portrait setting is appropriate for this at all. It looks super-cheesy with a portrait backdrop - you'd never be with a hooker with a backdrop like that, you'd probably be in some home or some other living space.

Standard Tomato Shot? I didn't know such a thing existed!

I've seen this trick a lot, and it's a neat effect - but it doesn't work here. The color is a distraction, and doesn't add much to the portrait (it appears as if this shot was meant to be a portrait). Effectively, it is a splash of color in the bottom right corner of the screen, nothing more.

This photo is strangely appealing. The leaves almost look like plastic, like one of those claymation cartoons, and the effect is very cool. The sky's color lends to that claymation feel as well - hard to say much, i just like it.

Why wouldn't this work in 35mm? Purse aside, the frame looks like it should be seen in full, with a little space on the top and to the left(viewer's left). The shadow is too dense; no detail at all in her shirt.

I like this picture ... I would try this same shot again, but with a few twists.

Have her not wear a necklace, or the nose piercing (for the new photo).
Keep the hair the same and blow out her skin (try and place it
around zone 7 ...maybe zone 8). If you are not familiar with the Zone
system, then take a spot meter reading of her face and overexpose 2-3 stops.

Also, have her wear a shirt that does not show up in the photo (like
a tube top, or something like that, so that the only skin and hair shows).

Keep the lighting similar and the pose exactly the same...print the result
either straight, or using a higher contrast grade to create a clean divisiion
between the dark hair and light skin...I think the result will be a beautful
ethereal image that will have a time-transcendant beauty.

Have fun with this if you try it.

Yeah, I agree; as a whole, I was not satisfied with this shoot at all...oh well.

I think that the leg would be fine if it were a bit lower (say, a lower item like a chair) and we could see more of the rest of her body.

I really like this photo...of the three I saw, anyhow, this is my favorite - but I have to comment on the hand holding the cup. She seems to be holding the cup in a crude fashion, and it gets to me after a while. The way I see it, the whole image would be make more sense to me if she were holding it in a lighter manner...that is, without the support of her middle finger underneath the cup.

I really like these colors and the texture, but I am struggling to deal with the space in between the shoes. Perhaps if they were oriented in a Left Shoe - Right Shoe pattern, and slightly closer, it would make more sense. I don't know, maybe I just like symmetry.

But still, love the texture and colors, especially the green.

I really enjoy this picture. It has an ethereal presence that really draws me to it. This picture's classy appearance, to me, is sexy.

nice job!
