ok, it's been so long since i did this that i've lost any critiquing ability i may have had and all i can say is: awesome. like you i was inspired by the very same shot when i first join uf and have been trying to find the right location to get it ever since but to no avail.

the question: did you flash the signs? or is it just headlights? natural light from some other source?

the apology: sorry to have lost contact with you (and with photography) but very happy to see you are still going strong :) although my music habit has taken most of my spare time, i think i hear the camera calling me again. perhaps i'll cook something up for you (and uf, of course)...

take care my friend,
tom

michael, michael, michael, you came to DC and didn't call?? tsk, tsk. just messing with you, but it would've been great to meet up. i could've given you the vip tour

hmm, interesting comments, hugo. i guess it's a bit different if you are the man in the photo vs. a third party not present at the time. i can see how this is seen as disturbing and/or disorienting by many but to be honest, this reflects exactly how i 'felt' walking around there. my posture reminds and the blurred surroundings remind me of how out-of-breath, thirsty and dizzy i was. the fact that you caught me leaving the frame also conveys my desire to 'get out of there' and back to flat land.

is the effect exaggerated? most definitely. is it an accurate emotional representation of the moment? absolutely. would i hang it on the wall? probably not, it's not that kind of photo. is it a keeper? definitely.

hoping to see more...

james,

i'm so sorry. i spaced on getting back to you yesterday. as you may have guessed, this week(end) won't work for me. i'll give you a holler when i return from utah and see if we can arrange something then. hope it doesn't mess up your plans.

btw, this is gorgeous. beautiful detail in the feathers and very nice color balance. how'd you get him to sit still? ;^)

thank you for your comment, endre. you are very kind. i like this very much, btw. i particularly like photos that use dead space well and you've got a doozy here. multiple meanings. directions of people, lines on the floor, light and shadow. very well done!

nice! the paving stones appear to be floating above the moss. if you stare, it could be a satellite photo of an alien invasion. all flying along in formation. vogons perhaps?

i love photos of patterns but i rarely post them since i know what the comments will be: 'no point of interest', blah, blah, blah. kudos on using your head (and foot) for a quicky (and color coordinated) point of interest.

is the vignette real or ps? the corner distortion? i think the combination gives this that feeling of being a satellite view.

dig it,
tr

absolutely, i'll give you plenty of warning ;^) a meeting sounds like a good idea too. my schedule through the end of the year is very busy and not quite firm datewise yet. all i know is utah next week and arizona all of december. probably to la-la-land once or twice as well. nailing me down for a meeting will be tough until january or so. i'll see what my week looks like and let you know tomorrow.

that's probably because they are clouds ;^) they had settled on top of the ocean below (about 1000 feet down). in california they call it 'marine layer'. the waves here barely look like ripples because we are so far above the water.

thanks for stopping by. i'm very glad you dug it, too.

is it a snap? maybe if you add a fingertip on the edge of the frame, lower the contrast a lot, tone down the color, add a bit of a tilt, and maybe have a couple of folks with arms around each other and smiling straight at the camera in the middle of the frame, then you 'might' have a snap.

looks like a nice spot to make a pit stop ;^)

lovely presentation, roby! all 3 shots are worthy of individual display. however, this layout feels like a story of sorts. in particular, i think the top left (bee shot) balances out the mostly green background of the other two. very nice and well done!

tim, wow! i just got back from yosemite and thought that those views couldn't be beat. it is clear to me now that i was dead wrong! i don't think i'd be able to shoot this as i'd be busy wiping the drool off of myself ;^) the color contrast is simply outstanding. in particular, i like how the trees (larches? are they indigenous or can i find them in the states?) seem to fluoresce. reminds me a bit of an art wolf photo. makes me want to break out the camping chairs and settle in for a beer or two. excellent shot!

jim, i love it! what a great perspective this is. i've been dreaming (literally) of a similar shot/perspective so i have to ask: how on earth did you get into the shipyard with a camera??

how've you been, btw? long time no see. hope all is well.

sal, wonderful perspective. in combination with the colors it makes for a great composition. i'd love to see it tack sharp at f/22 or so, though. it would be a different mood but it would make the building more ominous, if that's at all possible. ;^)

phew! very nice! i was thinking to myself how much this reminded me of some oil paintings when i read your 'about'. i think you've done pulled it off. interesting technique. here it adds more than just texture. i see many, many things lurking in the shadows between the trees. i'll have to return and look at it when i'm not sober and see what happens ;^) i am curious about one thing tho: the title is 'sheep at night...' so what is the light source on the field? moonlight? headlights from a car? just curious.

very cool, stefan! color versions of your laser refraction abstracts? it's the first thing that came to me when i saw this. the presentation is just perfect for this. each image is interesting in-and-of itself but shown this way one texture becomes foreground for the next. very neat idea and as usual, very well executed.
