Thanks again Doug. Right back at you. I think you learn a thing or two about being "diplomatically serious and still being able to keep a sense of humour from all those years reading and participating in Newsgroups. You learn to keep a thick skin and at the same time not take yourself or anyone else too seriously. Andre

Very beautiful! On rare occasions we get some much less spectacular Auroras up at our cottage. I keep hoping for a night when they appear again so I can get my tripod out. :) Andre

Thanks Stan, It takes a little practice. However, using a monopod and the 300mm lens, I can be at a safe distance from the action. It certainly helps to be able to use a 3 frames per second setting. I don't mind deleting a hundred images to get 10 nice shots. :) Andre

Almost exactly what they do. They try to time it so that they are exactly lined up parallel to go over the bridge. It's almost like a scene from the "Road Runner" cartoons, if you know what I mean. They drift almost to a stop and then put their foot down hard. Thanks for the comment Doug. Andre

Congrats on the award for this beautiful image Jason. Great idea to take it as a one minute exposure. I really like it when people go to the trouble of taking the time to write some interesting info in the about section. Andre

Thanks for the explanation Stan. Standing that far away from the back ground with the lighting in between does a great job of eliminating unwanted shadows and keeps the subject formost in the viewers mind. Andre

Thanks Nick, Even though I wasn't 100% happy with the images that I took of this guy, it was still one of my most memorable experiences this past summer. I was once again in my kayak with the large lens on a monopod. I was just hoping to get some shots of Herons from a distance. This siting was completely unexpected. The young Eagle let me float up much closer than I expected to get. I was pretty nervous and excited. I managed to get about 15 or 20 shots before it flew away. I only saw him one day. Next year he will probably have his full plumage and will be black and white with a yellow beak and legs. Maybe if I'm lucky, I will run into him again. Andre

Hi Nick, To answer your question, I've seen lots of nice floral images where the main "star" flower is sharp and the secondary flowers gradually fade in focus. It is all so subjective anyway. It's always good to try all kinds of shot to help you make up your mind. Andre

Hi Stan, I meant to comment on this one the other day. You guys did a nice job on this portrait. Great detail where it counts the most. I like the lighting effects with the textured background. I can't make up my mind if the overall image would be even better if the light was not so bright coming from behind. I'm sure you tried different levels of light and decided this one worked best. A really nice, honest portrait. Andre

A case where the double exposure serves a real purpose. The images are haunting enough without the effects. However this method does accentuate the mood. Andre
