Hey Rachel! Thanks for the nice comment! Yep this one's pretty gross close up - it was a cloudy day so the lighting sorted itself out, as for DOF - well my old nikon manual focus macro was spot on - they don't make them how they used to!

Nice work - very colourful and of course interesting exposure from HDR. Did you ever consider climbing on to something so as to shoot the monastery square on instead of to the side so that the ornament in the foreground was in the middle of the frame? I think this would look much more pleasing composition-wise and you'd still have seen the steps etc...

Nice setting, love the pattern in the timber. I wish you would have shot this at 90 degrees to the window instead of slightly side on. Nice expression on the lady too - good capture. I would tweak the curves though :-)

Great to see a before and after Rachel! I like the harsh sidelight, the slight over-exposure and the "serious" looks you both have. If I were to pick fault with anything it would be the distraction of the zip on your coat (I presume it's a zip!) and that maybe a little bit of space from the left could be cropped off. Other than that, this would be a great one to hang on your wall!

Excellent work! This almost looks medium format! Great job with the light Rachel, love the square crop and the glimpse of light top left. The subtle under-exposed back drop works very well here too. This gives us a feeling of something great being out there. Well done!

Good lighting, composition and feeling within this portrait. My only crit would be that I feel he looks uncomfortable in the left hand, not sure it would look better relaxed on his knee instead. Great job though!
