I guess at the time it just "looked right". Looking at it now, I do like the zigzag railing and the different depths of the two front sections. I don't think I'd find it as interesting without those, but it does mean there's that dark patch.
From memory (I don't have the slide to hand) I don't think it was as dark on the original - my scanner is lousy with shadow detail.

It could be me, but I feel very stressed with the composition of this photo. Can you comment on why/how you chose this composition ? I am a bit stuck at the small part of the buildings which is in the shadow - and which is almost black. I would rather have it without this. It is a nice shot however - the colour palette is limited, nice.
