Hi Leslie! I have been back to this one several times. Wow, what a lovely bit of eye candy. Could be in the 'creative flower' project. Its a winner. It would need a "thank you" or "get well soon" across the top or bottom and used as one of your most excellent cards. Hmmmmmmm no ratings. Great!!

you may practice all you like John...the ears are a bit too sharp for the upload, but I wish you could see the print, perfect IMO...13 x 19, full frame...a favorite of mine!...However, you've given me an idea for a different version with a different pose...maybe I'll play a bit more...

Mine looks like this one ...... but you'd never guess it from the pics I take of him.

Leslie, do his ears need to be this sharp?........... I know you sharpen to upload but I'm wondering how pulling the ears back with a little softening would look. I promise not to practice on your picture though

I like the look of this....... toning...color....... soft/sharp. Not that many almost monotone pics with color highlights work near this well. Cute pic too.

Beautiful capture. I like how this is presented but almost feel you could crop this more to show greater detail in the wings, thorax and head of the butterfly.

I'm not sure if it was intentional or not but the background is lined up almost perfectly to provide a light background to contrast the darker feathers found on the birds head and shoulders. If you have the time and patience I'd consider desaturating the background some to minimize the distracting bright colors. This secondarily would mildly and relatively enhance the saturation of color found in the birds plumage. My first reaction to this was the coloring of the bird was rather flat. One way or another I'd hope that a little more saturation of color could be added to your image to enhance the colored feathers. I really like the sharpness and detail. Very impressive.

Leslie no doubt a printer with multiple black cartridges would help, but no matter what printer you're using balancing your contrast/curve adjustments with masked adjustments and/or dodging would help you get that detail you're looking for. It may take some time to get just right though.

Thanks Jim...now with the Bay Area at my backdoor you'd think I could get out of the yard once in awhile
I have printed this @ 13 x 19 in both the warmer and the black and white...my problem with the black and white is that I lose some of the detail in the darker areas...but I think that is because I am printing with only one black and the grays really don't show as well...I am experimenting with both versions on different paper too...I think eventually I need a printer with more than one black...nice to know you are hanging around too...

It's been a while... glad to see you're still out there shooting. I'd be interested in seeing this with sharper contrasts between black and white. This sepia look is nice but I'm not sure it highlights the texture and pattern of the fur as well as a sharper contrast monotone image. It might also help the eyes pop a little more as well. Perhaps something to experiment with.
