Thanks for the comments! I will be adding 2-3 more images from Yellowstone over the next few days - including at least one more geyser.

Steady head, wings in motion, freakin' perfect timing...

No suggestion for improvements, other than maybe to tweak colors/levels in PS.

I just read your about and have to say I'm on the same parallel track, only went digital after bringing back 20 rolls of film from vacation... then it was cheaper just to go digital SLR.

Another Yellowstone shot! I'm so happy ---

Good composition - the black and white treatment and balance is probably a good move since the dark background really pops the water out. The geyserite is rather bland at times.

You located yourself well, I remember the boardwalk and there are not a lot of options: either zoom for the mini explosions or go wide and show the settings...

One other thing to try in the future is to crank up the F-Stop and add a ND filter and shoot a longer 1s exposure to veil the geyser... Might be interesting, or just garbage...

I'm off to see if you have other postings - mine are all under a Yellowstone portfolio...

Thanks for your comments on this and a couple of other photos of mine. This is one of the more humourous photographs that I've taken. Cheers!

Thanks for the compliment Pat!

In answer to your question - they're still shy. I need to be careful not to disturb them, particularly in the winter. When they're in a tree, I have found that I can get to within 50-100 feet of the tree before they get too nervous -- but when they're on the rocks by the sea, I can't get within 75-100 yards without spooking them. This photo was taken last summer when I ducked around some of the natural cover. 400mm lens (plus Canon 10D 1.6 multiplier) helps a lot and I've used houses and cars as blinds too.

Cheers,
Matt

Excellent! Have the eagles on San Juan Island lost some of their fear of people? I noticed you have many nice tight shots at your website. I have been stding a couple of groups for about six weeks now, here in South Dakota. They are very nervous when it comes to people.

Thanks for the note!

I do have one more on the same rock in my library of images on Usefilm. And, the same picture can be found (with other eagle photos from the San Juan Islands) at http://www.theragens.com/photos/albums/Eagles/Bald_Eagle_20 04-03.htm.
