Thanks to all, I appreciate your taking time to view and leave commments.
Roger ... the Sigma does exhibit some fall off on a 35mm film body, but with the cropped Canon 10D sensor, the light fall off is pretty much cut out of the image, I'm really working with a 22mm equivalent. The quality control on the Sigma is apparently all over the place; I lucked out and got one that rivals Canon L glass quality first off ... others have had to return the lens up to three times to get a good one, worth the effort though, IMHO.

Oh, I love this too (came to it via your other--B&W--shot). Very accomplished. The red leaves scattered among the roots, the colours of earth and roots, the grass in the background... they all combine to produce a memorable picture. Again, the 14mm lens has been used to great effect. I did wonder if you had perhaps overused Unsharp Mask when I first looked at the picture. On closer inspection that doesn't seem to be true. More like a very contrasty lens. By the way, did you use a radial luminance filter to correct for cosine law fall off in brightness in the corners? Or isn't there any? This is a pretty impressive lens, I must say.

This is a gorgeous B&W photo... I visited your portfolio because of your comment on Ken Smith's "Root" picture, and was delighted to find such a beautiful image here. This is B&W photography at its best. I am impressed with your use of the very wide-angle Sigma. I find 21mm quite difficult enough! The conversion is expertly done. Full, deep blacks, through a rich range of half tones and textures (sand, wood, cloud...) to clean and clear bright whites. I hope you upload lots more and I shall be interested to see anything you've taken!

nice image! great colors and wide angle. i might suggest croppig out the objects at the top as they distract from the rest of the image, i feel. thanks for your comment on one of my images, Thom! (c:,'

What a gnarled mass of beautiful shapes, Thom. And there's almost a portrait on the right trunk as well! A stunning tapestry of interesting form and surreal imagery. Well done.
