Very good light in this capture. I don't think it's too grainy, and for me it's well balanced. The expression of the young woman adds a poetic look at your portrait, I like it very much.

Oh Oh...Great capture. Lot of attitde ( what is called "NAKHRA" in Hindi) on her face, which makes this pic worth a watch. Best. AB

Thank you Indranil. I made a lot of pictures at that event and I only noticed this one when I took another look at the pictures I discarded. It was a bit dark, hence the grain. But I liked how it turned out.

She is really beautiful. I really like her facial expression and overall framing. Grain is looking good overhere. Nice one.

Cheers!

I immediately understood its practical implications, and now I want to go try it out. ;)

Thanks, Roderik. I also enjoy luminous Landscape for its breadth of materials.

Hi, I see you already found it, but luminous-landscape also had a great essay on it: http://www.luminous-landscape.com/tutorials/expose-right.sh tml (I am in no way affiliated to that site, other than an avid reader :-) ). Let me know when you do some experiments with it! Have fun.

Hi Paul Lara,

Yes, I actually noticed that after I uploaded the photo. Sometimes you stare at it a bit too long, when I saw the little thumbnail I noticed there was no white in it at all! :-).

It was a difficult subject though with a lot of backlighting.

Thank you for you constructive criticism, I will be posting a few more of this event.

I'm intrigued with the concept of 'exposing to the right'; could you elaborate?

This is a nicely framed shot, Roderik, but I think the levels could be boosted quite a bit. View this image's histogram and adjust the white point until you have a reached pure white. That should also restore some details to her hair.

If you are unsure of histograms, let me know.

Paul

Yes, that's one is even nicer than the previous. I love the tones and beautiful mood. Great light. I would only drop it a little bit on the left to eliminate this dark stripe at the upper part. Best regards Roderik!

Hi Roderik!
great mood and beautiful tones in Your pic!
Don't say that U have problems with taking pictures of candids!
This is really perfect noticed:)
My only remark is to pay more attention to the upper part of photo, because this time you've unfortunately cropped the balloon a little bit:(
Of course U might have wanted it:)
This is really good photo
congrats and best regards

Hoi Teunis,

Yes, I can see that the uploaded version came out a bit darker than I intended. I guess I should calibrate my monitor a bit better.

Thanks for the comment!

Hi, it has been a while since I took this picture (2002) but if I recall I might have upped the saturation a bit but since it was shot with a regular P&S I didn't use a polarizing filter. I do recall stark blue skies though.

Ah, I just looked up the original and attached it. It was only slightly less blue.

yes i agree, i like saturations, but to much is dun on people,, pitty bout the noise, if keep happenning, sell ya camera/trade it in soon as,, theres nothing you can do to fix this pic up unless you go full zoom and paint each pixle retouched!! naaaa,,...
