Hi This as adorable portrait! good warm colors and nice eye contact by the dog. Only thing is there is no breathing space in photo i.e headspace could have added to make it more interesting. Just an suggestion,

Thanks for your comments Green Gemini. I actually took the shot as is. By this I mean my dog is often on the bed so the scene is not set up in any way. I rested the SLR on the bed to get an eye level view and inadvertently missed the leg. I will give the Black and White a go.

Well, you cropped out part of the foot on the teddy bear in the foreground of the frame. The lighting seems to be okay but it still seems that something is missing from this shot. I think that maybe it is a more contrasting color or something. Perhaps a different toy that is not the same color as your dog would have helped. Also, you should try converting this into a b/w shot. I think that it would really look nice.

I like this photo, Tom! The tree trunks at a diagonal add dynamic tension. Otherwise, nicely framed with foreground detail and the receeding stream bed. Eb

Dear Lacy, One of the things that any student attempts to achieve is creativity and a desire for a level of individuality. This shot was carefully prepared no differently than Annie Libowitz, when she did her portrait of Keith Hare or Demi Moore pregnant, nude with body paint that appeared on the cover of Vanity Fair. I suppose you may think that is also disgusting. As her teacher I am proud of all the trouble this student took to take this shot and suggest you consider the merits and perhaps even the traditions our artworld is founded on. Perhaps Botticelli's Venus ia also disgusting!

It is a worry that you make those sort of remarks and the state of your mind. This was a difficult exercise in photoshop and the student did a remarkable job to so convincingly place the figures behind the bars.

This is our first, but hopefully not our last meeting on the pages of "Usefilm", Mr. Randa. I took the opportunity to read your bio, look at your webpage and throgh your entire portfolio. That part was easy, because there were not too many photos, but difficult because they were all good and hard to select one to comment on. I finally settled on this one because although it is obvious that it has been workred on, I liked its relative simplicity and simplicitiy, I've been told more than once, is the secret of beauty in art. You are, of course, invited to read my bio and pay further visits to my portfolio. In the meantime, I thank you for your friendly comment on my "Combination 2, 3 and 4." Coming from a professianl like you, these comments carry an extra load of honor for my work. Best regards, Dr. Rafael (Rafi for future communications) Springmann
