I appreciate your efort not to disturb the nest, but fill flash or light from a reflector on the birds would have added a lot to the picture. If your flash lacks an ajustable power setting, some tissue paper over the flash gives a nice diffusion and will not disturb the birds too much.

Fill flash... I don't know. It would have to be off-camera for sure so you would have to be very careful not to upset the birds. It would not be easy to position the flash correctly I think. Idem for the reflector.

I didn't really want to use the flash, it wanted to spend as little time looming over the nest as possible. The sun was behind me, so where would I have put the reflector to bounce the light? Thanks for the comments so far though.

With the sun behind you, using a reflector has less effect. I think the shot is fine as it is. You could lower the tone of the leaves in front a bit to place attention on the birds.
