Gadzooks, but I have a lot of catching up to do! Sorry for the absenteeism. I was starting to get frustrated with the inability to get a good replication of a slide, whether by print or digital file. I couldn't stand to upload anything because everything looked terrible compared to the original. But in the last few days I've realized I just have to let go. *I* know the original is satisfactory, even if I can't prove it to anyone else. :-p
I have metric tons of photos in the wings that I can't wait to share. And the best part? Very few floral macros! Woo!
Anyway, this is an oriental poppy I quickly shot whilst trying to finish off a roll of film. I like it, 2nd-rate replica and all. :-) All the info is guesstimation as I have long since lost my notes on this roll.

Becky, this is simply wonderful. Beautiful composition and colors, and perfect choice of what to hold in focus. Lovely work!

Very dynamic image. Not only does it look like the red center is rising, but the "swarm" is literally crawling with life. Not that this looks like a poor copy, but it seems that a slide scanner would be a worthwhile thing for you. If you don't want to go to the expensive end of the scanner pool, you could put your toes in the shallow end like I did: An Epson 3170 (or whatever its current brethren is called) does prints, film and slides with pretty good results. All to the tune of $200 (or maybe less these days).

If this is an 'unsatisfactory' replication of this image, the original must just blow your socks off! I really love this macro, Becky - in fact, it's going into my favorites. So there! The saturation and combination of colors is absolutely luxurious and I love the way all attention is drawn so strongly to the 'swarm' in the center - as Stefan said, you can almost see it crawl and buzz! Truly excellent!
