About When lava makes its journey into the ocean and is accessible to us mortals with a camera and lens, well, that's when the real show begins! As the daytime lighting faded away and dusk settled in, I noticed the colors began a transformation as well. This is the second image from the Kilauea ocean-entry lava flow at the Banana Delta on the Big Island. Taken at close to 300mm with tripod and cable release. Probably f/11 or so at 2-5 seconds. As always your opinions are appreciated. Aloha

Vincent - I really like this one. The long exposure works wonderfully here. The steam blowing back to the right really gives a sense of motion to the lava. I make it appear to be tumbling into the sea at a much faster rate than I believe it really is. A great caputre well done.

I always enjoy your images, and this is incredible. The mix of cool and vibrant colors is a real visual treat, and the steam and mist effect from the exposure time is well done.

Congrats on this beauty,
Chris

I appreciate all of your comments. This blue/magenta lighting Dave here was only available for just a few minutes and then was gone. It then turned to a much more volcanic red. I'll post one of those another time. Aloha.

Yep, my all time favorite of yours.
The timing on this is so exact, so perfect... to capture the light in the sky, reflecting onto the water, and then to catch the rich lava as it flows into the ocean and sends tendrils of mist back up the shore.
IT ROCKS!

Jose Cappelletto   {K:356} 12/23/2006
I would call it "Neon-like lava dreams"!!

The smothing effect on the water gives and excellent background and contrast with glowing lava.

Brilliant shot,

Cappelletto
