  Q. canon 1d mk111 & CS2. Cant open CR2 files
Asked by Lee Taylor   Donor  (K=268) on 2/19/2008
Please can you help? I have just got myself a canon 1d mk111 and when using photoshop cs2 I cant open open CR2 files. I have tried downloading the latest Camera Raw 4.3.1 update from Adobe but photoshop keeps saying it is not compatible with this version. I have also tried earlier versions and these don't even work. Does this mean I need to get CS3

Cheers

Lee

Hi Lee.

Check out adobe's DNG converter: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=3645

It's not intagrated into PS...but it is free ;).

Or switch to a dedicated RAW converter like Bibble.
I did so when getting my D200 and haven't looked back, I rarely if ever load a NEF directly into PS anymore (and in fact the only thing I now use it for is retouching).

Adobe have had a practice pattern of not supporting new cameras with older versions of their software. It prompts many of us to upgrade when we didn't really need the latest version. Corporate planned obselescence....

Can't blame Adobe for not supporting their old applications for every new camera that gets released.
Rather blame Canon for changing their file format with each new camera :)
