  Q. I need help
Asked by Jeff Barber    (K=20) on 4/28/2008
Hello, I need help with my camera. I have a Nikon N55 with a Quantaray 28-90 MMD lens which replaced the original lens which was broken last year. Just recently, all of my film has been underexposed, even on the auto setting. What gives? What can I do to fix this?

Could be a problem with your lens.
The problem you see is consistent with the aperture not functioning properly, closing down too far (probably all the way).
That could be due to a problem with the lens or a problem with the camera.

Another option is a problem with the light meter.

I'd send the camera to Nikon or a qualified maintenance center for a checkup.
Or (given the low price of non-digital cameras on the used market) you can probably get a fairly young N65 or N80 for less money than repairs would cost you, giving you a higher spec camera as well.
