  Q. Processing RAW files
Asked by Gary Hill   Donor  (K=53446) on 6/23/2009
When using digital I always shoot DNG RAW and when I open the file in CS2 the Adobe RAW Converter opens up. I've already got this set to the dpi and MP settings I want so I immediately move into CS2 proper to do my tweaking. My question is, am I missing out on something by not doing any actual processing in the converter, particularly as concerns image quality?
Thanks, Gary

No - you want to use the best photo editing software to process your images - and that's Photoshop. I don't do processing in my camera other than setting the white balance - in Digital Photo Professional, all I do is convert the Raw file to 16-bit TIFF - then I use PS. Let PS do what it does better than any other program. the ONLY exception I've read to that is when you are scanning slides - supposedly using levels\or curves adjustments is preferred because the slide has more info that the digital image - but I still do all that in PS.
