  Q. Housings for Digital cameras
           Asked by Jim F    (K=8625) on 5/13/2003
I am looking for a housing for a FujiFilm FinePix S602Z. Does anyone know of a maker? I prefer a cast aluminum housing and do not need a lot of controls, such as underwater playback and deleting images. With the new high capacity (1 gig flash cards) I see no reason to all all of the controls which only add to the possibility of leaks.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Regards, Jim

Off the shelf, I'm not sure if you'll find one especially if you want an aluminum one. You might be able to find someone to build you a custom one. I know of a couple of folks in my area that do custom work.

Hi Jim, welcome to Usefilm.

Zillion, a Japanese company makes housings for Fuji, but I could not find your specific model made. they are polycarbonate hosings.

I would suggest dropping an email at www.digideep.com. They seem to be the underwater gear gurus.

they have one listed for the Finepix S601, so perhaps they have one now.

I wish you luck!

Jim, you might contact these folks. They can order the housing for the FP601, so I am certain if anyone makes a housing for yur camera, they would know it.

Best of luck!

Jim, one other thought, I just looked at that camera, you might try sending an email to Ikelite and ask them if they can make a custom housing for you.

Its a bit more expensive, but is it will fit into the basic shell, I imagine he could do it.

Thanks for all of your comments. The FujiFilm 601 is a completle different shape and configuration from the S602Z so that housing wont work. I am continuing to search. I may end up going to Ikelite, but it may be cheaper just to buy a camera such as the Canon Powershot G2 and a corresponding housing made by several manufacturers.

Thanks again!

Hey Jim - no luck so far, huh? Did Fuji US have any idea?

Remember, as we discussed (via email) metal housings are rated for greater depths than plastic, so keep that in mind when you buy. Obviously, they're also 'tougher' and can take a greater beating.

Hope you find something that works for ya. Think of me shivering in the cold N. Atlantic when you're in Cocos (again.) ;-)

if you haven't seen these yet, check out www.digideep.com and www.wetpixel.com. Both excellent sources for UW digital imaging reviews etc.

Hello Jim,
I recently learnt to dive. Now I want a camera. I use Fuji s7000, the next generation to s602. I tried to find housing for s7000 but without success so far.

I am just wondering were you able to find one for yours?
If you have, could you please tell me where I can get one for mine. Its essentialy the same shame as S602.
Regards,
ken.
