  Q. Any suggestions on a camera?
Asked by Ayse Tumerkan    (K=0) on 5/10/2004
I am about to leave the States to go back to my home country, but before I go I want to buy an underwater camera. This will be my first camera to take underwater pictures and I enjoy shooting animals the most, esp. sharks. Would you recommend that I buy a housing for $150 for my digital camera (Nikon 2200) or do you think I can find a cheaper underwater camera on e-bay? If so, which ones would you recommend for a beginner for upto 120 feet of depth?

Thanks

Ayse

Housing your digital would probably be a better option. It will give you a lot more images on one dive, and you will be able to review and adjust your shots underwater.

The internal flash on your camera will create a ton of backscatter, which I can pretty much assure you will make you very unhappy with your shots so be sure you get a housing that will let you block the internal flash and use an external strobe.

Ikelite makes a great housing, and you can add a tray and a substrobe on it.

I would recommend this housing with the optional tray, and an Ikelite DS50 strobe with the variable remote sensor. It will let you adjust your strobe output manually with great precision.

Good luck!

Another Option is to go to lomography.com and look at theirr underwter camera it goes for 75 dollars and produces some really surreal images it only goes down 12ft but for the money its a pretty good camera
