It sounds like the lab scanned the B&W film in RGB, so the image can easily be non-neutral. Just convert to greyscale. There's no need for fancy techniques because each channel should be almost identical.

I agree with Helen. Sometimes I scan BW negatives as colors negatives and then I convert them in monochromatic, I do that when I have some exposure problems in an image, I noticed it comes out in a better way. Bye, Max
