Q. Playgrounds/Kids

For candid photos of kids, try any playground. All it takes is to sit on a bench, or under a tree, etc. Fiddle around with the camera pretending to take pictures of anything except kids. When they all relax and get used to you and your camera, they will relax and be themselves. Some may come over and ask what you are doing. Tell them the truth - you came to take some pictures. They may even ask if you'll take pictures of them. DO IT!! I take extra copies with me when I go back to the playground and give them their copy - friends for life!!

It is a great idea Bruce, unfortunately in the world of today with the fear of a pedophile behind every rock, when you start taking pictures of kids, or around kids without either being a kid or having a kid, or getting the kids parents permission, you are really asking for some serious trouble. It is unfortunate that the innocense of children is something that cannot be captured the way it used to be without someone thinking something wrong is going on. But listening to the news every day, I can understand parents concerns and would not recommend doing what you suggest unless you want a free room at the Gray Bar Hilton and your name on a Megan's Law database.

Philip I apoligize - you are 100% on target. I often forget that since I live in a small town (about 749 good folks and 1 old grouch!) where everyone knows everyone and everyones business I am able to do alot of things good honest folks can't do in larger towns and cities. Yes, doing candid shots of innocent children can raise the ire of protecting parents.
