Q. From monitor to printer keeping brightness

Hello,
I have a question on a topic that's making me crazy! I'm certainly not the first to notice that printed photos look darker than on the monitor. I get it, the monitor adds a bunch of light. But is there a way to print my images brighter without super-goosing the exposure and brightness on the monitor. The super-goose makes for a fine print but now leaves the monitor version looking...well...not good. And I hate to burn ink and paper to find the brightness sweet-spot. Maybe we're all doing the same thing to get the print...maybe I'm missing something basic. Thoughts?

Hi Fadel J,
No (been meaning to buy a calibrator) My impression is that calibrating my monitor will only help overcome color issues, which I don't 'appear' to have. Will calibration help me with my brightness issue??
