Q. Rumors of new Nikon Model?

Hi,
There are quite a few persistent rumours going around of a new Nikon DSLR model being released soon; they even speak of a possible release date of 26 June 2007. If that's true, they kept it hidden very well.
It's supposed to be a D3-something; but opinions vary about if it's a D3 or a D300...
The leading information sites keep quiet; I've found some information on:
http://www.roumazeilles.net/news/en/wordpress/2007/02/09/nikon-d300-features/ (that's the D300 talk...)
http://www.engadget.com/2007/06/13/nikon-getting-set-to-unveil-next-gen-professional-dslr/ and http://news.com.com/8301-10784_3-9727472-7.html?part=rss&subj=news&tag=2547-1_3-0-20 (Nikon D3 talk)
Anyone heard about those rumours? And can anyone shed some light on this? Given the relatively new release of the D2xs, it surely is a hoax?
Cheers,
Hugo

Hi Gayle,
Have been away from UF for a while, so I missed that thread. Thanks.
Yes, I use a CMOS Nikon DSLR; the D2x. It's already at the end of its econmic life, so I'm ready to "upgrade"...:)
Cheers,
Hugo

There have been rumours about a D3 for at least a year, and rumours about a D200s or D300 for almost as long. Heard the first people asking whether to buy a D200 or wait for the "imminent" D300 sometime July or August last year, just half a year after delivery of the D200 started.
I wouldn't worry, that D2x of yours will continue to deliver quality results for a long time. Until the day it's no longer economical to repair and maintain it there's no sense in replacing it (and if you use it properly that should be years and years from now).
Don't let yourself get suckered into the planned obsolescence cycle of digital cameras (and indeed most things these days), it's nothing more than a marketing trick to get people to buy things they don't need.
But yes, given Nikon's release cycle I expect an announcement of a D3 series maybe next autumn or spring 2008, with deliveries commencing a few months after that. Maybe a D300 or D200s half a year after that.
