Q. Promaster lens with Minolta 5d poor exposure.

Hello, I'm not sure if my lens is just bad or if this is a Promaster fault. When I take pictures using this lens with my Minolta 5d the pictures are underexposed without the flash and overexposed with the flash. Is there anything I can do other than not taking pictures with this lens. Thanks.
