  Q. XPan vs. TX-1
Asked by Matej Maceas   Donor  (K=24381) on 4/4/2006
A new Hasselblad XPan II seems to cost over $2000. How much could I expect to pay for the same camera when sold under the Fuji brand?

The list price is not very different, perhaps 10% less? but like most film cameras these days they are discounted, and more steeply for the Fuji. I wish they would hold a clearance sale! The most attractive option for you, if you are interested in purchasing one, might be to get it second-hand. They are very well-built and reliable. They would have to be, though, as you cannot get a Fuji TX-1 serviced outside Japan. That is the agreement with Hasselblad. I helped a friend from Hong Kong to get a good one while he was here on holiday last year.

PS. Did you know that the XPan/TX uses lead soldering on the PCB, and therefore will become unsaleable in the EU once the new directive forbidding the use of heavy metals comes into force? (This is silly, because you would have to EAT the camera for the lead to do you any harm.)

Thanks Roger.

(I don't want to use rude language in this forum so I won't comment on the EU's directives.)
