The Charente is a river in western France, 360 kilometers long.
It flows in the Atlantic Ocean near the Town Rochefort Sur Mer.
These pictures were made some kilometers before Rochefort, at the place the tide's effect is still very important.
At low tide, the river is very narrow, and the banks made of several meters of mud, which form wonderful stripes of silver in the beautiful light of our region.
At high tide, for a rather short moment, the river is spread and quiet as a lake. |

La Rochelle is a city of the Western France, and a seaport on the Atlantic Ocean.
The city was a center for the Hugunots during the XV century. After strong persecutions, many of them emigrated and founded New Rochelle, USA.
Later it became an important harbour for the triangular trade with the New World.
La Rochelle has an important trading harbour (La pallice), a fishing harbour (Port neuf), and the largest European marina (Les Minimes).
La Rochelle is well known mainly for its beautiful architecture and its exceptional insulation.
