Yes, it is sharp, Roger ~ a quality that some have said they like and others don't. Fair enough. But it's not the result of 'unsharp mask' as I barely added any sharpness at all after editing the shot in RAW. (Something like 50% at .3 of a pixel, to be precise.) But I have to confess to being a little disappointed that the only aspect of the shot you felt you could comment on was the so-called 'artifacts'?
In fact, I'm not convined that what you're seeing are artifacts at all. Here are a couple of small areas of the shot, reproduced at 100% size, straight from the original RAW image, with NO editing at all. I think what you're seeing is a halo effect created by the extremely strong, and very low, sunlight.
