About The lighting could be better for this shot. I should have used a reflector to lighten the shadows on the inside of the bloom. Learning experience.

Personally, I like the shadows in and around the petals just the way they are. The darker purple/blue background petals frame the lighter blue petals in the middle and the dark shadows within that part of the flower seem to pull everything together. Then the shadows reflected by the yellow stamen (or whatever tht part is called)really draws your eyes to the detailed texture and veins of each petal. Colors and DOF - very nice, and the almost center composition really works for this shot. It would be interesting to see the results of using reflector lighting on this shot - probably have given a whole different look and feeling to the shot. I like this one. Jan

Yes and no, I quite like it as it is... ;-D!!! The color (beautiful blue..!!!!) stays nice and dark this way and I also like the shadow play... but to really judge it a second shot would've been great... ;-D!!! Love the crop, excellent DOF and details though... well done Don... LOL!!! Ehhhmmm reading through the other comments I also could've said ditto and point to Jan's comment.... haha...

Actually I like those shadows, Don! I think they make it a more interesting image, apart from the good colour and clarity you've captured.
Dave.

I love columbine...and this is really pretty! I love the purple and green together...a lovely combination! The shadows work for me, but I can see that different lighting or a reflector would have made this an entirely different shot.

Lovely columbine, Don. Great texture and deep colors. I have been "off line" for awhile so haven't made any comments. I notice a lot of my friends are leaving UF :-(
