I enjoy seeing this image, as after a long Canadian winter we see this as rebirth. lovely soft muted colours, nice soft lighting. I would have tried to underexpose this image by 1/3 to 1/2 stop as I find the highlights are a bit burnt-out. Rim lighting on the stem is well handled.
A pleasant image that is worth looking at.

Thanks for the useful advice Sandra. I will have to get myself some black velvet as I had been planning to sooner than later. Some velvet in the background would have made a nice black background, although I must admit I like the warmth of the background in this particular shot.
I hope this bud or another nice one is still there this weekend when I visit the inlaws.

Roy,
The flower & stem look well captured. Some how the grey background color seems to distract & not complement the mood of the flower. This same picture with different background color lighter then the flower or black or mabye even softening or lighting what you have. I like it & consider it near excellent but want to challage you to play & see how changing the background color can change the whole mood of the picture.
