About Just a snap shot of my daughter, before bed time. Used on-camera flash, so the lighting isn't the best. I wanted to post this because she had such a natural smile on her face.

Hi Sarah, I just spent some time looking at your images and I think you have a great eye. You are fortunate to have a beautiful model in Jenny. You explained how you used your on camera flash for this particular image. I was wondering if you use any off camera flash or if you have a speedlight that will allow you to bounce the light? I would also like to know if you scan your prints or if you scan the negatives. I've been shooting digital for the past two years and am now considering going back to film for some of my children images.

Looks like you caught her just as she was going upstairs and she said, "okay, ma' fine I'll pose." I know that look well. :-)

Thanks for the comments, Lisa and Thomas.

Thomas, I do have a speedlite, but this shot was just when I was messing with my camera one evening, and I couldn't be bothered to get it out my bag. Jenny was posing so nicely, that I didn't want to miss the moment. She has a habit of quickly changing from co-operative to running away when I try to shoot pics of her.

I scan prints because I only have a flat-bed scanner, I can't afford a neg/photo scanner.

Thanks for the interest.

Sarah

Hi Sarah. I know that you don't have the best lighting there with the on camera flash, but when I view the photo with the bottom bit cropped out I think it looks alot nicer and balanced. Jenny does have a beautiful expression there and the catchlight in her eyes makes them sparkle that extra bit more. The good thing about the background underexposure is that it removes any unwanted distractions and ensures Jenny is the only subject. I wonder what it would look like in B&W?
