About The sail training ship "Nippon Maru" was built in March 1930 for the students of the merchant marine schools. She set sail on her maiden voyage in 1930.The ship became the property of the Yokohama city in 1984. Hereafter she was moored afloat at a stonebuilt dock in Nippon Maru Park and was opened to the public. It became an educational facility for the youth and a means of raising interest among people for marine topics.
She is a much photographed subject and at her best when the sails are flying in the wind.
