Great nature shot. Compositionally I think this might be stronger if you were to crop a bit off the top of the image. The crop would place greater emphasis on the ground and the relation it has with this type of owl. Very nice capture.

Hi James, Very strong use of DOF, obscuring the peripheral elements in this shot nicely. the clarity of tthis shot with the Sigma lens is quite astonishing; I find my Sigma 135-400 always a bit dull in tonal range / dynamic range, but that certainly doesn't show here. Thanks for posting the camera settings, too, very insightful.

We love these little guys. Last year, we found one in the Arapahoe NWR near Walden. We're always hopeful to find another. Where did you find this one?
