Thanks Endre, I took a break from UF, just getting back. I don't know the significance of the year of the Dog, but it's a good way to start :) Always nice to hear from you, Happy New Year in 2006! Ina

Endre Novak   {K:12549} 1/2/2006
Surely its a good way, Ina! By the way a nice shot, the crop especially good.
My best,
Endre
and Happy 2006! (again)

Thanks Kanwarpreet :)

Hugo de Wolf   {K:185017} 1/2/2006
Hi Ina, I like this close up type of shot; the brown eyes come out beautifully against black & whgite fur. It does llook a bit oversharpened, expecially in the high contrasty areas (that, of course is no surprise...) Great stare too, the reflection in the eyes does give away that it's an indoors shot...;)

Cheers,

Hugo

Ina Nicolae   {K:44481} 1/2/2006
Thanks Hugo, and Happy New Year! It's an outdoor shot with my 4MP Panasonic - the dogs are only outside - they pull the sleds in winter, and that's how the rangers get around the park! I visited the kennel and photographed many dogs. It does look like windows reflections, it must be the blue sky and the dog houses :) Each dog had a little home built from logs. See below:

Log Homes

Hugo de Wolf   {K:185017} 1/2/2006
Hi Ina, Yep, that must be it. I know these dogs too, and I agree they're supposed to live outside. Cool setting in the second one, too.

Cheers,

Hugo

Kathy Hillard   {K:25721} 1/2/2006
Very nice shot, Ina! Your composition is great, and I love the eyes!
Hope 2006 is treating you well so far :)
Kathy

Ina Nicolae   {K:44481} 1/2/2006
Hi Kathy, and thanks for your comments, I'm just getting back into UF, and boy! Lots of great pictures I missed! Hope your 2006 is wonderful and off to a great start, too :) Hugs, Ina

Susie OConnor   {K:34798} 1/2/2006
Beautiful shot Ina. I looooovvvee dogs! His eyes are so expressive. He'd have me wrapped around his little finger (paw) in no time flat. Great focus.
Happy new year! Hope things are well in your neck of the woods. We've had rain, rain, and let's see...more rain. Not the best for photography, but oh well, I'm getting caught up on other stuff! )

Ina Nicolae   {K:44481} 1/2/2006
Thanks Susie, isn't he (or she? Keta) a sweetie? I love that glamorous look, too! I have photographed a number of sled dogs in Denali, minus the puppies who were behind a wire fence, and when they let them out, they were too fast to shoot :) Catch up with you soon, I've been so busy with the holidays... it's nice to be back!

Bob Walker   {K:1066} 1/2/2006
Wonderful image, Ina.
A lot of beautiful symmetry in the face and the eyes give him a pretty intense look.

Best regards,
Bob

Ina Nicolae   {K:44481} 1/2/2006
Thank you very much, Bob! I was revisiting some of my Alaska pictures, and decided to do a crop of this guy :)

Manu     {K:13076} 1/2/2006

Manu

Ina Nicolae   {K:44481} 1/2/2006
Thank you Manu :)

Andrzej Pradzynski   {K:21600} 1/2/2006
friends,

you should take a look into eyes of the Denali sled dog to see your future. Your own interpretation is encouraged and you either see nothing just a strange gaze or your brain will pick the message up. It's blurry as it should be, it's colorful as it will truly be, it's partialy orange warm but in heart it's blue blue. Would your year of the dog be happy - yes, would it be sad - sure it will be, would it be blurry uncertain - yes but so what, was your last year any different. YOU are the one to decide what your next year would be - I mean how you will see it.

Sweet impression Ina, it could be very poetic for poets, romantic for romancing, expresive for artists, ..., but it's thoughtful for me.

Great details, and perfect portrait of the dog.

Best regards Ina, n.j

Mark Longo   {K:12757} 1/2/2006
Such an expressive face! The texture of the fur is well shown here and also the nose leather, but it's the eye reflections that really grab my attention. A great textural contrast, Ina! There is something of a green cast to it which is a little unexpected given that it is a sled dog (I'd have expected more of a blue hue I guess). The color strength adds to the shot, I think, regardless of hue.

Lastly, this is an awesome composition and a great decision to frame/crop on the eyes and nose. The look of this dog is quite distinctive and the ears are not needed to identify the breed. The tighter crop allows the stunning detail of fur, nose, and eyes to be shown. Great stuff Ina!

Mark

Ina Nicolae   {K:44481} 1/2/2006
Thanks Andrzej, You must be a fortune teller! You sound like you really know Chinese Astrology - it can be a clear prediction, depending on how you read it, or a very poetic one! Thanks so much for the interpretation, I'm sure YOUR year will be a great one in photography! Best regards, Ina

Ina Nicolae   {K:44481} 1/2/2006
Thanks Mark for your comment, indeed I put a green cast on the image, wow, good eye! I wanted to have the eyes stand out from the rest. This is a 25% crop of a 4 MP picture, shot with strong backlighting in the summertime. I thought she/he looked very glamorous - like the movie stars of the 30's and 40's :) Best regards, Ina

Mark Beltran   {K:32612} 1/2/2006
A handsome animal! Beautifully done. Year of the dog eh? I'm glad.

Ina Nicolae   {K:44481} 1/2/2006
Thanks Mark, these are working dogs, but they get a summer break :)

Andrzej Pradzynski   {K:21600} 1/2/2006
Ina, no I'm not a fortune teller nor I'm any familiar with Chinese astrology, I just like to comment your pictures because YOU gives us a lot of room for interpretation, so instead of prising you for what is truly proficient I prefer to let my imagination loose and say my story about your picture. I hope you like it, I know you like people seeing their own story in your images and you are instantly provoking us to do that, and this is great Ina.

Cheers, the provoked one.

Ina Nicolae   {K:44481} 1/2/2006
Thanks again Andrzej, it makes me very happy to know that there is more to a picture than just what is there at first sight. And it's always great to hear your interpretation! That's what keeps me going :) Again, hope to catch up with your previous posts! Best regards, as always, Ina

Kelly Duntley   {K:13055} 1/2/2006

Great angle. Very nice details . And of course the expression is the best of all. Take care Brian. The masking around the dog's eyes is picture perfect.

Gabriela Tanaka   {K:17991} 1/3/2006
Smashing! this dog has LOVE written in its eyes, dearest Ina!Who knows, it might have been a human being in an other life OR its life now is just a stop on its way of being reincarnated as a human. I'm afraid it will break so many hearts!
For the moment....it simply overwhelms me! A wonderful portrait!
Love from Gabriela

Ina Nicolae   {K:44481} 1/3/2006

Happy New Year, Ina!!

Very beautiful shot, I've always loved these dogs.

Best regards!

Ann Nida   {K:45230} 1/9/2006
A wonderful shot of this working sled dog Ina. Such soulful eyes and you've caught such fine details in his fur. The clarity is superb. Great contrasts but I still can't get past those deep eyes. They're like pools reflecting his life's stories. An excellent crop and fantastic photo Ina.

Thank you also for your great comments on my Frozen Falls images. Like yourself my favourite is also the close up of the bridge too. I appreciate all your support and encouraging words.

Cheers - Ann :)

Ina Nicolae   {K:44481} 1/9/2006
Thanks Ann, did you visit the dog kennels in Denali on your trip? That was one of my highlights, I love wildlife, but these... you could pet! They had voulnteers come and walk them every afternoon, so they wouldn't miss on exercise.

Ina Nicolae   {K:44481} 1/9/2006
Thank you Sergio, and Happy New Year to you too :)
