Hi...Cernan It's easy, i just use a spot lamp, just normal spot lamp not a profisional studio lamp. First...u have to hang the black background behind the model, and tell the model to wear dark shirt ( green, blue brown...black of course the best one ) and then put the lamp in front of the model but not direct to him but above...to the ceiling. ( Note : The lamp and the model should be in the same level of high....use 2 of same chairs )
After you finish with it, you can a bit retouch in Photoshop. Just use level, high and contrast, hue and saturation. That's it !
Hope it's work

The soft top lighting here is an excellent choice. Direct light would have been very severe for a shot like this. As it stands you have many soft tones to add interest to the face, hands, etc.
Also, the color of the type blends well with the the skin tones. I might have positioned the type closer to the model and left the negative space to the left of the type and model, rather than between the model and the type. But that's strictly a mater of personal taste. What you have done is effective and perhaps highlights the type a little more.
Very nice work.
