Nice lighting and composition Paul. I assume you are referring to the lack of sharpness.....here's what I do. I drag my 'final' image into my browser if it looks duller than the original, I sharpen it using either Focus Magic or Extensis and compare the results in different browser windows to see which is up to my very discriminating standards(lol). I have found that sometimes the meer act of reducing the image size dulls the shot....We must fight back with any means necessary. I hope this helps.

Paul, The size of the image is 1.11 MB. Could that be the problem? The limit is 360K or less.

Thanks, glad that you like it. Not sure why it is coming up as that size since the image I uploaded was under 300K, is there something in the load process that would change the image? I selected not to sharpen.

Sorry Paul, my mistake. It had saved as a BMP on my machine which is a bigger file. I rechecked, and it is under 300K for JPEG.
I thought if you are 750x750 and under 360K that they did not tweak with our images.

Very pretty representation of the Golden Gate. I like this dark moody side.
Regarding the quality, are you aware of the sharpening feature on the upload? I make sure to check "none" because the time I didn't I was very unhappy with the upload quality. Just a thought...

One of rare night shot where control over exposure done so nicely so not to degrade the sky, this shot of my favorite works where just enough light to show the details. Stunning.(Favorite)
Dear Paul, am not sure the way you save your images before uploading them, but I use PS, that’s for the security copyright and save them in “save for the web..” in that way you avoid the compression and lost of quality where there is a restriction in size.

I've not seen the bridge from this angle before. Another very original photo. I used to have a business partner in SF and was always glad when I had to visit the city... I can't imagine what went wrong with the upload, it looks just fine to me, with a beautifully sharp skyline and that finely etched bridge. Very fine.

Excellent shot. The bridge really has a golden colour here. Wonderfull. I like the big black hole at the left side of the picture, cutting the picture in two pieces. the tower in the middle. Excellent composition. All the little lights at the rivershore are wonderfull. Excellent night scene!

Hi Paul, I see what you mean about the quality, but frankly, I think it's subsidary. I usually look at other things, such as the make and model of the camera, the thought and effort that has gone into a shot, as well as the exposure etc. Based on those, I think you can assess the overall quality of a photo pretty good. The artefacts due to the upload look different than unsharpness, if you look closely.
My fist reaction to this one was more directed at a surprise about the centered composition, and sure there are ways to prevent that, but the longer I looked at it, the more it became in balance. A darn good shot, very slick and professional. The contrast between the sky and the mountain, the clutter of lights (your'e making it difficult on any compressing software) is just sspot on. The only thing that seems out of place is the red aviation light on the right, but even that doesn't bother me much. Great shot. Good to be the 43th comment!

Hugo, as always an excellent critique and I am glad that you like the image. About the centered composition, I have other shots that follow the rules (sometimes they are meant to be broken :) ) but, as you said, this one seems to have a nice balance about it. Some photos are more of a challenge to capture and this was one of those due to the difference in lighting (bridge, city lights) I had to mess with the exposure settings on the camera to control the light better. Where I took this from was a great view but very dark.
Yeah, I see what you mean about the artifacts...and, I did not really notice the light on the right, thanks for pointing it out. The only thing I did was clone out one streak from an airplane. Thanks for your comment, definitely appreciated.
