I like this shot. Nice colors and the smoke adds to the atmosphere. The composition is good, I even like that you can see just the top of the fence. Some might want to crop it out. I like it the way it is.The only small fault is that there seem to be some noise-maybe just the result of the picture being compressed for the web.Good job.

Steve,

Wonderful colours and steam my friend. We have a G-P paper mill down here in Waxahachi Texas and it's light years more advanced. But I prefer the old style stuff my self... I think I was born 40 years too late sometimes...

I like the different colours you've got here, Steve, and the steam and lighting give it the appearance of an early morning start to the workday.
Dave.

I really appreciate your comments, Gene. I agree about the fence (actually it's the top of a wall). Without it the buildings have no grounding. If you wouldn't mind telling me what you see as the fault, I'd appreciate it. My guess is it's something I did rather than the effect of compression. I'm glad you like the photo.

Thanks so much, Martin. I'm really kind of disappointed that the whole complex will be torn down. I find these kinds of facilities endlessly fascinating to look at. I agree that the old ones have character. Maybe in 80 years the new ones will have character, too.
Thanks again,
Best wishes,
Steve

I worked hard on the colors. Well, maybe not too hard. I probably took the picture in late morning or early afternoon. It's been a particularly gray and wet fall/winter in Bellingham.
Thanks so much for your comments,
Best wishes,
STeve

This is an excellent shot! The blue colours from the background are beautifull. The grey/blue tones are comming back in the whole picture making it one. The smoke at the foreground, excellent. gives it something mystical. Excellent picture. I wasn't quite sure about the line at the foreground, but in my PS i had it removed, and the picture some how looked empty. So its really working for me! Excellent.

Cheers, Lex.

Thank you so much, again, for your generous comments, Lex. The line at the bottom is the top of a concrete wall. I also tried the photo without it, and I didn't like the result. The smoke, actually, is steam rising from the top of a low structure. I will be truly sorry when these buildings are demolished.
Best regards,
Steve

Steve, this one really jumps out for me. It is a very nice composition with the yellow stack as the focus. It reminds me of my youth when I worked summer jobs in various paper mills in Ontario.

Thanks, Eb. I'm pleased you like it, and especially that it brings back memories.

Great industrial image, Steve! I love the colors, it looks like a painting. I love the concrete wall at the bottom, even if you had included more of it and less sky, and the steam really adds atmosphere. I see noise, but in this context it adds a certain gritty quality, noise is good sometimes, and this is a great example. I like it very much! Ina

Thanks, Roby. I'm glad you like it.

Thank you so much, Ina. I included as much wall as I could without beginning to add some obtrusive texture. I'm very glad you like it.
Best,
Steve
