At Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Valley, Rotorua. The Craters. These Craters can be up to 50 metres in diameter and 20 metres deep.Some contain boiling springs and most contain extensive sulphur deposits formed by escaping vapors meeting our atmosphere.Most of these craters have been formed over the last few hundred years by the action of acidic steam rising from superheated under-ground water dissolving the ground above.
