Thanks for your comment, Carsten. I guess I see the photo as being as much about color as anything. I love asymmetry, too, but I don't see it as the answer to everything. Using your suggestion I did try moving the lamp around on the space, but I didn't find a composition that I liked better than the one I used.
Regards,
Steve

Thanks so much, Meldijana. I'm embarrassed to say that I'm not sure what you mean by "oxygen reaction". Oh, well! Old age creeps in! :>)
Best,
Steve

Yes,you are right ,Steve. There are many constructions here,in our town, with some parts made of copper, and when exposed to air for a longer time they got greenish layer which is called "patina" in our language. As I was not sure about the word in English I put a kind of description, but few minutes ago when I looked up in the dictionary,I realized that you use the same word "patina ".Funny,I should have looked before, and I wonder if this is really copper or bronze,in your photo. But,in the end it is not so important, the photo is so nice and I found the same word in two (and probably more) languages, what is always amazing.
Best,
Meldijana

Well, Meldijana, you got it exactly right the first time and the second. I love that you love language as well as photography. Indeed it's the oxidation of the copper in the lamp post that gives it a green patina. I wish we had more in Bellingham.
All the best,
Steve

Meldijana Omerbegovic   {K:4089} 2/14/2006
It seems that Bellingham is a very nice place and you find way to show fine details in many of your photos.
This site is really amazing,as so many people from different regions of the world find common language and share nice ideas. Languages do not have such power, but they are the most sophisticated way of communication. If only we could have such clarity in different languages that people speak,it could be quite easier for poples'mutual understanding and everyday life.
Best regards
Meldijana
