Well - i hope it will stay this time ;) Just made a comment on this post and it disappeard!

Again: Saeed, this is a lovely shot and i find it very appealing with the golden sand almost reachable - a feeling caused by the low angle shooting. The patterns, many in each other, and the good composition - all together is excellent!!!

Beautiful scene - stunningly captured. Love the perspective and the colour - and the 'untouched by human foot' feel to this vast landscape.
Well done Saeed!!

Excellent picture, Saeed. I'm just wondering whether the small green spot at the right side could be tree or something similar. It looks like there could grow absolutely nothing.

Regards, Markus

Saeed Al Shamsi   {K:47644} 1/18/2006
Hi, Markus
The Desert outside Dubai city a little bit different from, that of Empty Quarter, it has vegetation like, trees, small bushes and kind of green grass.
The attached image gives some idea about the desert here.
Thanks
Saeed

Jeanette Hägglund   {K:59974} 1/18/2006
It´s ok, i thought exaclty that, i saw the line between sand dune and sky was a little ... yes, but not now anylonger.

Kind regards,
Jeanette

Markus Scholz   {K:22851} 1/18/2006
Thanks for the explanation, Saeed. But what was first, the sand or the trees?

Markus

Saeed Al Shamsi   {K:47644} 1/18/2006
Hi, Markus
This place in ancient time was full of vegetation and not only that many of rivers and animals like elephants, skeletons where found some years ago in the western side of UAE, when the people started having to domestic the goats and other animals the vegetation began disappearing, because those animals eat the green grass from the roots, where cows just cut the upper parts, less of green, less rain and the wind began to bring the sands where the desert formed.
Now the authority began to make a man planted "forests” all over the desert here.

Hi Saeed,

Once again, a fabulous dunescape. The void, emptiness and desolated feeling is well emphasised by using the ripples in the sand. It makes the photo very strong. I only wonder if you could've made stronger use of the small green shrub withoug compromising the line play in this photo. I think it could've created a rather strong eye catcher, grabbing and holding the viewers attention just a tad longer.

Cheers,

Hugo

A fantastic picture, full of atmosphere and I think this peaceful mood comes from the fact that it is very well balanced in the composition. Great quality and superb look!

Regards, Riny.

Laura Spell   {K:24080} 1/21/2006
Awesome landscape. The color of the sand is beautiful. I really like the way the lines lead my eyes into the background.

Sara M   {K:12282} 1/21/2006
The pattern created by the sand is simply beautiful.. it shows how beautiful things can be made by very simple things..

Jim Goldstein   {K:21230} 1/22/2006
Wow! Great shot. Sadly I think with as much attention as you've received with this photo you can bring it out to it's true grandeur with a levels adjustment (see the attached). The contrast in this version is muted and the color accuracy is lacking as is obvious when looking at what data is in the file. One thing I've found with scenes like this as well (if you're not using a graduated neutral density filter) is that ones camera will properly expose for either the bright foreground or the lighting in the sky. Obviously in this situation the exposure was weighted against the golden sand in teh foreground. For this reason you can make an image like this pop even more if you mask the sky and treat it seperately when color correcting your image. If all goes well I'll attach two images for you to reference, one being a before and after levels adjustment image and the other a fully corrected version. I think the difference is quite dramatic. I wonder what you might think. Worth the effort?

Before & After Levels Adjustments

Jim Goldstein   {K:21230} 1/22/2006
You'll have to let me know if this is more representative of the true scene. Just going off the data in the image I think this might be.

Fully corrected version

Am glad that you brought the subject of contrast, as of a big concern in this part of the world, your experience helped in knowing such issue.
I’ve noticed that you are part of composition judgment, as I am for long time in this field some time we close one eye on that issue if the submitting person shot the subject in similar weather or editing is not allowed in that particular competition.
If you go deep into photography biz you will know how much the weather and the upper atmosphere effect on the final contrast if photos been taken in this part of the world, the editing to enhance the final result a must, unless it was taken just after it rained.
if you think the colour temperature set to its minimum and that goes to the minimum ISO 100 or less.
This image represent almost actual scene where the surrounding is dull, that is after a heavy blowing sand dust weather which remains in the atmosphere till strong wind at upper layers or washed by heavy rain where the case is very seldom.
Academically is very known this type of results and part of Uni study.
In terms of preference, I `d rather shoot with Nikon D100 and not Canon cameras (under this circumstances), where Nikon has its default manufacture under expose out put, and the colour density much stronger.
Thank you for your input on interesting subject, which am sure many will benefit from it.
Saeed
Ps. here are two images one original and the other edited a big difference though.

Well, what can I say? This is just a canon desert photo, almost-tangible model.

PS. The green spot on the right looks like two jinns dancing... :)

Mabrook! Amazing work
