About Congrats to Roger Federer on winning his 7th Grand Slam Tournament in Melbourne on Sunday.
This photo was taken July 28/04 at the Roger's Cup Canadian Open during first round play.
PLEASE VIEW IN PANARAMIC FORMAT FOR OPTIMUM QUALITY...THANKS

I just noticed something purely by accident with this image. If you open it up to the panorama size and place your cursor on the scroll bar and click, so that the whole screen moves fast to the end of the image, you will see Roger Federer's serve in animation! (almost :)

Good action sequence, Andre! Well done!
Dave.

Andre Denis   {K:61663} 1/31/2006
Thanks Dave,
This was done with the multiple shot option on the camera. The timing seemed to work pretty well for tennis action.
Andre

John Loreaux   {K:86129} 1/31/2006
This is really great Andre! Excellent sequence here!
I really like the first photo showing the intence look on His face as He waits for the ball to come down in anticipation of the serve!
Great job here! my best.................John

Andre Denis   {K:61663} 1/31/2006
Thanks John,
I didn't really do the greatest job of matching the colours in the three of these. I think the first one could be a stand alone as well. Obviously he is sharper in the first one because he isn't moving fast at that point. The other two, he is in full motion at 1/250 approx. I could have fully frozen the other two by using 1/500.
I'm not sure that I like posting in the panaramic format yet. It seems to force the viewer to open a larger view for best results.
Most of us are generally pretty lazy and don't like to scroll an image. I figured, in this case it wasn't a real problem. Mostly only a few tennis fans would be interested. :)

Ina Nicolae   {K:44481} 1/31/2006
Fantastic composite Andre! Awesome freeze-action, especially the one on the right where he's totally up in the air! Great green and purple geometric pattern of the court floor with white lines, and the way you arranged them. I looks great in the panoramic format! I like the action sequence - wonderful work! My best regards, Ina

Kambiz K   {K:37420} 1/31/2006
very creative and beautiful capture with good sequence

stingRay part 2 .   {K:239449} 1/31/2006
Awesome shots in full pano Andre but like yourself I do have reservations about the format. The middle and righthand shots demonstrate how superbly fit these top players have to be. The action of that one on the right is excellent my friend. Well captured trio Andre..Very best wishes to you...Ray

Mohamed Banna   {K:34231} 1/31/2006
the grand slam in photography ;)

WELL DONE
i love it

go to my favorites

Mark Beltran   {K:32612} 1/31/2006
What I like is the blue and green background that forms a super abstract as it combines from all three. I wonder how seamless it would look w/o the black borders.

Thilo Bayer   {K:50355} 1/31/2006
Hi Andre,

well, I didn't know you're in the tennis business ;-) nice series of actions, and I definitely love that lines on the floor competing in each frame with each other. good eye my friend.

best wishes,
Thilo

Andre Denis   {K:61663} 1/31/2006
Thanks Ina,
When I put this one together, I wasn't really thinking much about the geometric patterns of the court. A few people have mentioned this including you. I guess it was a little bonus, but not intentional :)
This is a three image multiple shot. That function seems to work very well for sports events.
Andre

Andre Denis   {K:61663} 1/31/2006
Thanks for the nice comment Kambiz!
And thanks for paying a visit to my portfolio.
Andre

Andre Denis   {K:61663} 1/31/2006
Thanks Ray,
Superbly fit is right! Anyone who can play that high a level of tennis for 4 hours straight in almost 40c temperatures has got to be fit!

These three shots represent about a 1/4 of a second in the life of the number one tennis player in the world!
Andre

Ina Nicolae   {K:44481} 1/31/2006
Hi Andre, I can't help but notice abstract patterns :) Great idea to sequence, and even if you couldn't plan the court pattern and player position, it worked out great!

Andre Denis   {K:61663} 1/31/2006
Hi Mohamed, Not that good by a long shot :)
I think the usefilm equivelant would have to be Editor's Choice, Staff Choice, Photo of the day and Best in Project all for the same image.
Now, that would be a Grand Slam!
There are a few great images like that out there:)
Andre

Andre Denis   {K:61663} 1/31/2006
Hi Mark,
When I first started working on it in PS, I didn't have the black bars in between the images and it didn't look as good to me. Actually I never really gave the abstract aspects of this on a thought. But you are not the only one to mention that. So an added bonus as far as I'm concerned.
Andre

Andre Denis   {K:61663} 1/31/2006
Hi Thilo,
I am a big tennis fan and have been playing since the Borg, McEnroe days! I never got to a really high level myself. My excuse is because I started quite late. I started playing on club teams and local tournaments when I got competent enough. I still play on a couple of teams in the summer. My oldest son practically lived on the courts with me for a few years. I ran the junior program at our local club for a while.
I might dig up some old shots of Borg, McEnroe and Connors. I wonder if anyone knows who they are anymore?
Andre

Andre Denis   {K:61663} 1/31/2006
Ina,
I love that multiple frame option on todays cameras with digital. You can shoot for hours and pick the best so easily. It is so much fun shooting Pro tennis players. Male or female, they are fantastic specimens of muscle tone and usually very photogenic characters.
Andre

Susie OConnor   {K:34798} 2/1/2006
Nice action collage Andre. And yes, the pano view has so much more detail in it. Good job on this. the green and blue really add a nice pop of color.
Susie

Mervo     {K:8562} 2/1/2006
Super action sequence Andre, I love the bold colours and the strong lines from the court. You captured the action well my friend!

Andre Denis   {K:61663} 2/1/2006
Thanks Mervo,
I think those colours are chosen for ball visibility and TV compatablility.
Andre

Andre Denis   {K:61663} 2/1/2006
Thanks Susie,
I'm not sure if I'll do many Panoramics... I don't like the way they come out on the first opening. Then to get the quality you have to scroll the image across the screen and it loses effect that way.
Maybe there is a knack to it that I haven't discovered yet?
Andre

Thilo Bayer   {K:50355} 2/1/2006
Well, at least I know them ;-)

Andre Denis   {K:61663} 2/2/2006
Hi Thilo,
Now I will have to search through my negatives again :)
Andre

Andrzej Pradzynski   {K:22148} 2/3/2006
Andre, the triplet here is realy great journalistic presentation of the event. Looks like a series of subsequent frames of the movie, but in fact this is a pretext to show great composition of lines, colors and forms - all necessary components of the good picture. And this one has no flaw - the great one.

Cheers, n.j

P.S I'm backloged severely being bussy with my prime business stuff but will catch up. Cheers, n.j

Andre Denis   {K:61663} 2/3/2006
Thanks Andrzej,
I think this kind of action shot lends itself well to the triplet panarama format. I think the first shot may have been an individual shot taken minutes before the other two. The second and third shots are from a multiple frame shot. They were numbered in sequence in my files.

It's good to be busy with work :) Don't feel obliged to comment on every shot. It takes so much time. If people pick a few they really like every now and then to comment on, that suits me fine :)
Andre

Rashed Abdulla   {K:163889} 2/4/2006
great series , wonderful timing and with great details and beautiful contrast and colors , all of the best my friend .

Andre Denis   {K:61663} 2/5/2006
Thanks again Rashed, for catching up on my portfolio!
Andre

Marcus Armani   {K:36597} 2/6/2006
wow this is a cool series, I like the start to finish serve. excellent andre..

Andre Denis   {K:61663} 2/7/2006
Thanks Marcus,
I know it's been done a thousand times before :)
But, it still looks good!
Andre

Fadel J   {K:13747} 2/8/2006
Very nice set of shots Andre, I like most the one on the left because of its sharpness, and I wished the middle one showed the ball in the air :)

Andre Denis   {K:61663} 2/8/2006
Thanks Fadel,
You're right, the one on the left is kind of the classic tennis serve pose and has the best chance of being a stand alone shot.
Andre

Roberto Arcari Farinetti   {K:192044} 2/22/2006
woowww andre.. a nice sequence and mode, i like it just the action of the man of tennis!
my best wishes

Thanks Roby!

I hope you viewed this one in the panarama format, because it has lost quite a lot of quality in the compressed small image.

Amazing sporting moment seeing him tear up during the trophy presentation hey?! Great shots Andre!

Andre Denis   {K:61663} 2/23/2006
Hi Peta,
Thanks for visiting.
Yes I did watch that Australian Final and the awards presentation. He is sort of known for that. He broke down after winning at Wimbledon as well. I think it is kind of nice to see someone that emotional in that kind of situation. It prooves how much the Grand Slams and the game in general mean to them. In Federer's case at the Australian Open, I think it was the fact that Rod Laver handed him the trophy that started the gusher. My wife just melts when she watches those trophy presentations.
Andre

Roberto Arcari Farinetti   {K:192044} 2/23/2006
oh, well well well.., sure in the large-panorama format the beauty is still more impressive my friend!
have captured and composed a very powerful image.. sure!!!
still new best wishes,..
take care
roby

Andre Denis   {K:61663} 2/23/2006
Hi Roby,
I don't really like the idea of people having to do the extra step to view a panaramic image. I think many people might just see an inferior version and completely skip the next step. I did put a reminder in the "about" section, but even so.
Thanks for coming back and taking a second look anyway :)
Andre

Jose Ignacio (Nacho) Garcia Barcia   {K:94480} 3/24/2006
Great sequence. marvelous composition. superb. 7

Andre Denis   {K:61663} 3/24/2006
Thanks Jose,
I hope you opened it to the panorama size. Quite a lot of quality is lost in the small version that pops up.

biljana mitrovic   {K:45712} 11/1/2007
I hope next time on your photo instead Federer will be Novak or Jelena and Ana:)))
big hug my friend
biljana

Andre Denis   {K:61663} 11/2/2007
Thanks Biljana,
I think the men will be back in Toronto this year and the women are in Montreal. So I might get a chance to get some action shots of them again.
Andre
