About This photograph was made in Death Valley's Golden Canyon. Between two rock outcroppings, one can look out and see this letter "H" up on the face of the mountain. Not a composite; that's the real sky. PS only to desaturate colors. Thank you for coming by to take a look :)

Awesome picture Mark! Gorgeous sky color! I was in the Golden Canyon, but never saw that, maybe I didn't hike far enough, just about to the great red rocks which looked like Hindu temple. The whole image, the way you composed it looks like a giant owl with its wings open. Every time I see your pictures I'm amazed at your ability to change styles, and your Leica work seems to be my preference :)

Hi Ina

We hiked about 400 yards from the end of the trail. There's a crevice to the right....about 2 person width, and it narrows until it's barely 1 person's width. But when you turn around to get out, you can see the H. It's even more intriguing in 3 dimensions, and you're right it looks something like a temple. I like to think it's in Nepal. I never saw the owl, so thanks for opening my eyes to that. Now it's like an eagle. As far as style, I'm not aware of any unless people tell me what it's like. But I'm an eclectic in as many things as I can. These Leicas are awesome and I like using Kodachrome 64 with them. Thank you :)

Mark

Hi Mark,

I've hiked to the end of Golden Canyon 3 times and have never seen that H. I've even taken some side tracks up the hills and STILL never saw that H. I reckon a person could go back to Death Valley countless times and still see things they've never seen before I love it there. Some of my early postings here were taken in DV and I have a 3 toned pic of the same place in my portfolio called Golden Canyon Hike. Oh and you don't have to convince me about the sky I KNOW jsut how blue it can be there against those red rocks. That's one place I miss about living in the desert. I never tire of looking at Death Valley photos. Thanks for posting this. I love it and good catch with the H. If I get back there again I'll hike that canyon again to go find it. :)

Cheers - Ann :)

Hi Ann

Well if I could go there with you, I could tell you where it is; I reckon it's 400 yds. before you get to the end. But just print a copy of this, and ask the locals. Oh, mountain with the "H" is on the left side as you go in, and the crevice is on the right side. Don't get stuck!

Thank you, Greg.

Hi Mark,
A stranded rock climber's skeleton can just barely be seen to the right side of the "H". I suppose he succumbed to the elements before he could chisle out the "elp" :)

I wonder how many times locals have heard something like that?
Andre

Thank you my friend.

I've tried to figure out what that H means, if anything. Help, heaven, hello, hubba hubba, how are ya. Help often comes too late here. Lots of people think it's like an amusement park until they get lost and the water runs out. It happens even in the milder deserts of the state. I'm sure they hear help a lot.

Mark Beltran   {K:32612} 2/2/2006
Thank you Greg. Yeah, it's the bluest sky over there. Great place to shoot color work. Cheers,

Mark

Cool photo... very interesting with that "H" up there... i wonder if the hills and clefts beside it had other letters to spell something out... hmmm?! Haha, but this is a great shot! Good eye catching this and that you for bringing it to us! The colors are awesome, I love what you did with this! There is more to this photo than gorgeous lighting, and vivid colors... and I love that! Excellent work :)
~Rachel~
