This is a beautiful scene, but the sky just doesn't match the lighting of the canyon. Try changing the opacity, direction of the gradient and combining color layers to create a more realistic looking sky. It may take a little trial and error, but you'll find the right combination.

Michael, stunning image and composition. The reflection is beautiful. I agree with Jim re: the sky gradient. I like it very much as an image, I guess it depends how you look at it. Do you want a realistic record of the place and time (a documentary picture), or do you want the best image you can extract from it, taking artistic licence? That's what it comes to, in the end, IMO.

Michael, I like both images better in B & W. They have a "mood" that is not present in color, for lack of a better word. In B & W they speak more to the mind than to the eye.

Hi Michael: I like this shot a lot. What makes this interesting is that you have 3 different perspectives, the real opening of the canyon,its reflection and the direction of the river. Very nice.

Hi Michael...I definitely prefer the b&w version over the color, but that sky does bother a bit. In the b&w version, it looks even more out of place, as tho' it were dropped in in a PS layer, then the cliffs given a cast shadow. I doubt that's what you did; just saying it's how it hits me.
Still, even with that, the b&w version is gorgeous...as Ina notes, it's loaded with atmosphere the color version doesn't have.

I´m impressed of your reconsrtucted sky Michael. Thats something i would like to learn. Tell me how you did!
I like colours and this red rock against the blue sky and water is the best for me. Wonderful low angle shooting and the kiss of the rocks comes from a superb composition.

In the original, the sky was blown out to a total white. In Photoshop, I used quick mask to paint in a mask around all the white sky, then in the normal mode, selected inverse to select the sky.
I used the sample tool to sample the exact colors of the reflection, the lightest and the darkest. I then used the gradient fill tool to create a gradient fill to replace the white.
After all that I used levels and saturation adjustment to try to match the tones.
The last thing was to apply an add noise filter to make the sky appear with the same amount of noise as the original photograph.
