The old Hearst Building, a 1928 masonry 6-story structure, serves as the base of the new 600-foot Hearst Magazine Tower. Mr. Hearst had intended to build a 20-story tower on top of the original building shortly after it was completed, but that never came to fruition. But 75-plus years later, the dream now becomes a modern reality.
