Hi Susie, Whether they are fresh cut, dried or even just buds, it is hard to resist taking shots of roses. This is a nice example. Roses are deceivingly difficult to shoot. I find that anyway. I think it is because of the velvety texture of the petals. Andre

Hi Susie, congratulations on the new 50mm - which one is it? I know there are two in the Canon line with different apertures. Amazing sharpness, the edge of the top petal is razor-sharp, and the reds are perfectly saturated! I can see the veins on the R/H side of the bud. Great contrast with the greens, and I love that DOF! The 50mm should be great for portraits too! Best regards, Ina

Hi Ina, I got the 50 mm 2.5. I was thinking of the 1.4 but was counseled that the 2.5 would be a little more versatile. I've been having so much fun with it. A lot to learn though! I'll be a flower taking fool this summer and I can't wait to try it with some portraits. ) Susie
