About This strange building/object, is situated on a nearby beach. I only stumbled upon it because the tide was out, and I took a walk.
I have no idea what it is.

Sarah,

It's either a buried clown or a missle :-).

It's a traffic cone for the Irish giants who placed Stonehenge. Time has worn away the bright orange paint...

Thanks for the comments Chris and Sue.

I like the traffic cone idea!!!!

Um . . . a giant, petrified squashed ice cream cone? Okay, if I were to hazard a (somewhat) educated guess, I'd say it's sort of a marker for boats. Maybe a rock hazard warning when the tide is high. Hard to say . . .

This is a perfect example of how photos can look spectacular when they're taken at sunrise or sunset. The warm colours (must have been sunset) are wonderful and contrast nicely with the white object and blue sky (which is just perfect in my opinion, but I think I'm rebelling a bit against supersaturated skies). The low light really brings out the textures in the grass and rocks. The exposure is quite tricky in this shot - could you have snapped a decent shot of this object if you had moved so the sun was more behind you?
