Sarah, I understand the difficulty with these light condition. The flash usage is very creative, unfortunately the result is often showing some unnatural shadows and the surrouding area is also exposed to much. Under these conditions I prefer to use a high speed BW film (and push it one or two stops). I got good results with the Ilford delta 400 (sometimes pushed to 1600) or the delta 3200. In my porfolio is one example (opera).

Regarding the slight lack of contrast, I think I probably lowered it a bit too much when I converted it to black and white.

Hi Sarah, it looks like Jenny is growing up fast! Every photo of her shows her getting older. Your album must be overloaded already, and she is only what...4 or something? This photo is nice, and the catchlights always liven the eyes a little. A nice candid shot but it doesn't beat the other one of her, where she is looking directly at the camera.That one is my fav!See you.
