Hi Doyle, nice shot, with a very well chosen angle. It takes the ordinary bird portrait out of the usual, I think. The image looks a bit soft though. Did you use a tripod? I also like the softness, almost pastel-like tones in this image. As to the composition, I think it's beak is a bit too close to the edge of the photo, but this could also be because of the frame. Personally, I don't really like these fancy borders, but I do think a frame, if kept simple and not interfering with the image, would be beneficial to the photo here.

Thanks Hugo . . . I actually agree about the frame . . . I had the same image with a simpler frame on it but uploaded the wrong image. Incidentally, I did not use a tripod.

I do like this because it shows something about a bird that cannot be observed as easily when the entire bird is included in the frame. Softness does not bother me so much, except around the eyes where sharpness would make the image stronger.
I'm in agreement with Hugo that the beak is too close to the left edge of your frame. Even if the PS border was removed, it would still be a bit close. Maybe there is more space in the original image?
Your soft green background works nicely with the subject, as does the separation of the main subject from the background.
I look forward to perusing your portfolio! You have a knack with this kind of subject.

I greatly appreciate your comments. They were clearly well thought out and articulated nicely, so allow me to thank you for spending the time to put them down for me. I have to agree about the spacing of the beak near the edge . . . it's a long one! I will recheck my original. Incidentally, I agree about the eyes too . . . they truly are a gateway to the soul.
